Mercado Bitcoin said on Nov. 2, 2026, that it had detected and contained a security incident in one of its systems, prompting it to suspend deposits, withdrawals and access to its services while it investigated. The cryptocurrency platform said about $38 million in assets was linked to the incident.
In an official statement, Mercado Bitcoin said it activated security protocols to protect client assets. It said clients suffered no losses and no data was leaked.
The company said its teams were investigating the incident, tracking the assets and coordinating with the relevant authorities. It described the suspension of deposits and withdrawals as a preventive measure and said it would provide regular updates through its official channels.
Assets frozen across multiple blockchains
Mercado Bitcoin said cooperation with the crypto community and strategic partners helped it freeze $11 million. It named Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1 and Chainalysis among the organizations involved.
The platform said it had identified other amounts that could be frozen. Its teams continued working to contain the incident’s impact and track the assets across blockchain networks.
Mercado Bitcoin also published addresses linked to the relevant transactions. It said the addresses were disclosed solely to help identify and trace the assets.
Chainalysis separately reported that it helped freeze nearly $10 million stolen in the hack. According to the analytics firm, an attacker siphoned funds in waves across 17 blockchains.
Chainalysis said its specialists provided law enforcement with addresses to block within half an hour of receiving an alert about the breach. It said work with partners including Tether, Circle, Paxos, Ripple and Anchorage Digital allowed them to freeze the stablecoins quickly, including more than $9 million in USDT.
Mercado Bitcoin said it would resume operations after meeting all necessary security requirements. The company said it would announce the timetable for restoring services through its official channels.
The incident followed what the source described as the largest hack in the history of the crypto market, involving Binance in late October 2026.
