Exploring the Surge in Tokenized Real-World Assets
CoinGecko’s recent report highlights the remarkable growth in the sector of tokenized real-world assets (RWA), emphasizing its dynamic expansion amidst rising interest in stable and transparent financial instruments. The report reveals that the tokenization of treasury securities has soared by an impressive 545%, reaching a total of $5.6 billion. A standout player is BlackRock’s BUIDL asset, which was launched in July 2024 and now commands a substantial 44% share of this burgeoning market.
The Rise of Stablecoins
The stablecoin market has also experienced unprecedented growth, achieving a historic market capitalization peak of $224.9 billion. This represents a substantial increase of $97 billion within just one year, mainly fueled by the contributions of USDT and USDC, which together added $93.9 billion to the overall value.
New entrants like USDtb from Ethena and USD0 from Usual have quickly gained market trust, securing their positions among the top ten largest stablecoins.
Tokenized Gold: A Safe Haven Amid Uncertainty
Amidst global macroeconomic uncertainties, demand for tokenized gold has risen significantly. The total market capitalization for commodity tokens experienced a robust jump of 67.8%, reaching $1.9 billion. Notably, XAUT and PAXG control a dominant share of this market at 84%.
A Steady Recovery in On-Chain Lending
The on-chain lending segment is gradually recovering following its downturn in 2022. As reported, active loans amounted to $546.8 million as of April 2025, with Maple Finance leading the way with a commanding share of 67% ($374 million). Although still distant from its peak levels at $1.6 billion, this positive trend signifies ongoing recovery.
The Emerging Role of Tokenized Stocks
While still modest at $11.4 million, the capitalization for tokenized stocks has grown by an impressive 297.2% since early 2024. Companies like Backed Finance and Dinari continue to expand their offerings while platforms such as Kraken and Coinbase have announced plans to support these assets.
Rising Institutional Trust in RWAs
CoinGecko’s report underscores growing institutional investor confidence in RWA sectors due to their transparency and integration with DeFi protocols. Analysts highlight that RWAs are laying the groundwork for deeper integration between traditional finance systems and blockchain technology.
This thriving sector not only showcases innovation but also points towards potential shifts within global financial ecosystems as blockchain continues to bridge traditional finance with modern digital frameworks.
