- The Cardano Foundation has launched the CIP-0113 programmable token standard on the Cardano mainnet for stablecoins, funds, bonds and other regulated assets.
- The standard matters because it allows issuers to embed compliance requirements, including KYC and anti-money laundering checks, sanctions screening and transfer restrictions, directly into tokens.
- CIP-0113 remains compatible with Cardano native assets and did not require a hard fork.
- The Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association has recognized CIP-0113 as equivalent to its CMTAT smart contract for certification purposes.
The Cardano Foundation has announced the launch of the CIP-0113 programmable token standard on the Cardano mainnet. According to the developers, the standard enables issuers of regulated assets to embed compliance rules directly into tokens, allowing them to apply requirements to stablecoins, funds, bonds and other regulated assets.
CIP-0113 supports know-your-customer and anti-money laundering checks, sanctions screening, asset freezing and seizure, and restrictions on transfers. The Cardano ledger applies the rules whenever a token is minted, burned or transferred.
How CIP-0113 works
Tokens created under CIP-0113 remain Cardano native assets. The standard uses Cardano’s extended unspent transaction output, or EUTXO, model, with compliance logic attached directly to the token, according to the foundation’s statement.
Issuers can adopt prebuilt rule modules or develop their own. They can also update those modules as regulations change without modifying the standard itself. The rollout of CIP-0113 did not require a hard fork.
The Cardano Foundation said programmable tokens can work with existing wallets, blockchain explorers and applications in the Cardano ecosystem. Launch partners include Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan and BloxBean.
CMTA certification recognition
Separately, the Cardano Foundation and the Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association, or CMTA, announced that CIP-0113 had been recognized as equivalent to the CMTAT smart contract for the purposes of the CMTA certification scheme.
According to the Cardano Foundation, CIP-0113 includes mandatory functions defined by the CMTAT framework. The recognition makes it possible to use the standard to certify that tokenized shares comply with CMTA requirements.
The Cardano Foundation said it would continue working with projects and financial institutions that use CIP-0113. The organization also plans to develop a securities module for regulated financial instruments.
In September 2025, the Cardano Foundation presented the next stage of its roadmap.
