First-day program
The Nov. 5 program opened with sessions on energy independence and Bitcoin’s role in the financial system. In “Generating freedom — what it takes to go off-grid,” Duncan Coombe of The Solo Mining Co. explored self-generated electricity and how to set up mining without relying on centralized providers.
A panel titled “Bitcoin is political, but not partisan” brought together speakers from across the political spectrum to discuss using Bitcoin as an alternative to state money.
Treasury Stage
Sessions on the Treasury Stage examined cryptocurrency history and its place in the financial system. “Bitcoin’s earliest moments and how it could have collapsed” featured researcher Alex Waltz, early Bitcoin developer Martti Malmi and Aaron van Wirdum, author of The Genesis Book. They discussed the network’s early development and circumstances that could have threatened its survival.
In “DAC8 — Europe’s war on financial privacy,” Theo Mogenet of Bull Bitcoin discussed the legal challenges France faces in implementing European Union rules on reporting crypto-asset transactions.

Representatives from BitVault, BitBox and Wesatoshis Labs will discuss the balance between crypto-wallet security and ease of use in “Will self-custody ever be safe?” Bitcoin Core’s Sjors Provoost and van Wirdum will also discuss changes in the new Bitcoin Core 32 software release during a technical session.
