Google has unveiled Playground, an experimental platform that allows users to create, run and share games without programming skills. The launch gives eligible users in the United States a browser-based tool for developing games by describing mechanics, rules, characters and environments through text prompts.

Playground is available to users aged 18 and older. Its set of creation tools depends on the user’s Google AI subscription level.

How Playground works

Users can build a game from scratch or begin with ready-made prompts. They can immediately test the result and refine it with additional text commands.

The platform allows users to adjust a game’s physics, rules, characters and environments without working directly with code. Games run in a browser and can be played on smartphones and laptops.

Creators can keep finished games private, share them with friends through a link or publish them in the Playground Explore gallery. Multiplayer modes and in-game leaderboards are available for certain genres.

Users with a Play Games profile can select a unique nickname, add games to their favorites, follow creators and compete for positions on leaderboards.

Google reviews published games for compliance with its Community Guidelines. Users can also report content that violates the platform’s rules.

Unity Spark integration planned

Google also announced plans to integrate Playground with Unity Spark. The integration is expected to give creators access to professional game mechanics, 3D capabilities and the Unity runtime environment.

Unity Spark is currently being tested, with a closed beta expected to begin soon. Google positions the integration as a way for creators to expand games developed through text prompts into more complex Unity projects.

Google launched Playground as an early experiment that it plans to develop with the community. The platform is already available to eligible users in the United States.

Google previously released Gemini 4 Argon with 1 million tokens and unrestricted cybersecurity protection.
