ZetaChain Sets Date for ZETA Migration and L1 Shutdown

3 Min Read
  • The ZetaChain team plans to migrate ZETA to Solana on Dec. 9, 2026, and shut down its Layer 1 blockchain.
  • The plan depends on a community vote ending Nov. 7; rejection would prompt the team to prepare a revised migration proposal.
  • ZetaChain also plans to launch ZetaLabs, an AI platform for financial-market analysis, with advanced tools scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The ZetaChain team plans to migrate its native ZETA token to Solana on Dec. 9, 2026, and permanently stop transactions on its proprietary Layer 1 blockchain. The shutdown would end ZetaChain’s network operations if the community approves the proposal in a vote scheduled to close Nov. 7.

The team announced that it would take a snapshot of user balances at a specified block height and issue an equivalent amount of SPL-standard tokens on Solana. The tokens would be exchanged at a 1:1 ratio and retain the ZETA ticker.

After minting the required number of tokens, the team will disable the ability to issue additional ZETA.

Token claims and network shutdown

Token holders will be able to claim their assets through the ZetaHub migration portal, which is due to open Dec. 9. Users will need to connect the wallet holding their existing tokens and provide a Solana address. The process will be free, while assets held on centralized exchanges will be converted automatically.

Users will not need to unstake tokens before the migration. The snapshot will include locked assets and unclaimed rewards, although no new rewards will accrue after the blockchain shuts down.

The ZetaChain community previously supported a proposal to discontinue the proprietary blockchain and move ZETA to Solana. That initiative received 99.4% of the vote in September. The new vote will determine the migration mechanism and timetable.

If the proposal passes, the ZetaChain network will permanently stop processing transactions on Dec. 9. If voters reject it, the team will prepare a revised migration plan.

ZetaLabs and planned token burn

Alongside the migration, the team plans to introduce ZetaLabs, an AI application for analyzing cryptocurrencies, stocks, commodities and other financial instruments. The platform will combine several AI models and market-data sources while encrypting users’ queries and interaction histories.

ZETA will be used to pay for services at a discount, access premium features and participate in product governance. The rollout of ZetaLabs’ advanced tools is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The developers also plan to burn about 55 million ZETA previously allocated as validator rewards. The tokens will be burned in equal monthly tranches throughout 2027.
