Strategy Increases Dividend Payout Reserve to $2.2 Billion

In a significant move within the cryptocurrency sector, Strategy, the largest public holder of Bitcoin, has bolstered its financial reserve for dividend payouts to an impressive $2.2 billion. This increase comes after selling common stocks worth around $748 million over the past week.

A Robust Financial Cushion

This enhanced reserve ensures that Strategy can meet its financial obligations for approximately 32 months, providing stability and confidence to its stakeholders. As reported in their SEC filings, the funds were exclusively raised through stock sales.

Market Reactions and Stock Performance

Following this announcement, Strategy’s shares experienced a decline last week but rebounded with a 3% rise in premarket trading as Bitcoin prices recovered above $90,000. Nevertheless, since the start of the year, Strategy’s stocks have decreased by over 50%.

Bitcoin Holdings and Market Valuation

Strategy continues to hold an impressive 671,268 BTC acquired at just over $50 billion. With Bitcoin’s current market price around $90,000, this portfolio is valued at approximately $60.4 billion.

Previous Financial Strategies

Earlier in December, Strategy had already set up a dedicated USD reserve of $1.44 billion aimed at covering dividends on preferred shares and debt servicing. The company planned to maintain this reserve level for up to two years while ensuring it could cover payouts for at least one year.

Long-term Plans and Stability

CEO Phong Le reassured investors that there are no plans to sell Bitcoin until at least 2065. He emphasized that creating such a substantial reserve addresses investor concerns about dividend stability.
Moreover, Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has frequently highlighted Strategy’s resilience against extreme market scenarios. He asserts that their corporate structure can withstand drastic declines in Bitcoin value by as much as 80–90% without disrupting operations.
In summary, these strategic moves underscore Strategy’s commitment to maintaining robust financial health while navigating the volatile cryptocurrency landscape. By fortifying their reserves and planning long-term holdings of Bitcoin, they demonstrate a forward-thinking approach that could influence broader market dynamics and investor confidence in digital assets moving forward.
