Introduction
In a significant development for the cryptocurrency market, Strategy (previously known as MicroStrategy) has expanded its Bitcoin reserves by acquiring an additional 850 BTC valued at $99.7 million. This move underscores the company’s steadfast commitment to cryptocurrency despite a noticeable deceleration in its buying pace. The transaction was executed shortly after the U.S. Federal Reserve lowered its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points.
Expanding Bitcoin Holdings
According to documents submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Strategy’s acquisition occurred between September 15 and September 21, 2025. With this latest purchase, the firm’s total Bitcoin assets have skyrocketed to an impressive 639,835 BTC, amounting to approximately $47.3 billion based on an average acquisition price of $73,971 per coin.
This strategic accumulation solidifies Strategy’s position as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally. Despite this achievement, analysts have observed a notable slowdown in the company’s purchasing activities.
Shifting Acquisition Pace
While Strategy acquired 3,330 BTC in September, this figure is significantly less than August’s tally of 7,714 BTC and drastically lower compared to July’s acquisition of 31,466 BTC. Experts suggest that this shift reflects a transition from large-scale purchases to more cautious steps amidst price stabilization.
Co-founder Michael Saylor attributes this change in dynamics to reduced market volatility. He notes that while Bitcoin may seem “boring” for retail traders now, increasing institutional adoption is laying a foundation for sustained long-term growth.
Institutional Interest Grows
Interestingly contrasting with Strategy’s slow-down is Japanese firm Metaplanet’s recent activity—acquiring 5,419 BTC recently—which boosted its holdings to a total of 25,555 coins. This leap propels Metaplanet into the top five public corporate holders of Bitcoin.
Simultaneously with its latest transaction announcement came news that Saylor is preparing for participation in a governmental roundtable discussing legislation aimed at creating a U.S.-based strategic Bitcoin reserve.
It’s noteworthy that these developments occur against the backdrop of gold reaching historic highs amid declining cryptocurrency prices.
Strategy’s ongoing investments highlight an intriguing chapter where institutional adoption continues growing while traditional retailers show caution—a dynamic likely shaping how cryptocurrencies evolve moving forward.
