Stone Ridge Accuses Mawson of Illegally Using Bitcoin Mining Equipment

The cryptocurrency industry has been rocked by the ongoing legal battle between Stone Ridge Holdings Group and Mawson Infrastructure. In a recent development, Stone Ridge Holdings Group, parent company of the NYDIG platform, alongside its Bitcoin mining division Consensus Colocation, accused Mawson Infrastructure of unlawfully acquiring more than 20,000 ASIC units.
The Allegations Against Mawson
According to Stone Ridge’s lawsuit filed against Mawson Infrastructure, it is alleged that over 20,000 ASIC units were wrongfully taken. These units are valued at an estimated $30 million. The accusations claim that since February 28th, 2025, Mawson redirected the hash rate from these devices for their own use in Bitcoin mining. This operation allegedly generated substantial daily profits ranging from $100,000 to $200,000.
Background and Contractual Disputes
The disagreement traces back to December 2023 when Consensus and Stone Ridge entered into an agreement with Mawson for hosting their mining equipment. However, tensions flared after disputes arose regarding payments for hosting services and electricity fees. In February 2024, amidst these disagreements, Mawson altered payment details and restricted access to the equipment for Consensus staff.
Mawson’s Defense
Mawson defended its actions by referencing contractual clauses that purportedly allowed them to redirect hash rates under certain conditions related to deposit amounts before April 1st, 2024. Despite this defense strategy by Mawson Infrastructure asserting compliance with contract terms during hash rate redirection on February 28th; plaintiffs maintain deposits were fully paid at that time.
