SharpLink to Raise Additional $5 Billion for Ethereum Acquisition

In a bold move within the crypto market, SharpLink Gaming, backed by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, has announced its plans to significantly ramp up its investment in Ethereum. This development follows the company’s recent filing of an amendment with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to increase its potential share offering from $1 billion to a staggering $6 billion. The primary goal is clear: transform Ethereum into the cornerstone of SharpLink’s treasury strategy.

Strategic Expansion in Crypto Assets

SharpLink has reiterated its intention to allocate “virtually all proceeds” from this increased offering towards purchasing Ethereum. Any remaining funds will be used for working capital, operational costs, and marketing enhancements. This strategic move aligns with their ambition to control up to 1.38% of Ethereum’s current circulation if they had invested the entire amount on July 18.
Currently, SharpLink holds over 280,000 ETH, with 99.7% staked. In just nine days, they acquired ETH worth $515 million—32,892 ETH bought on July 17 alone through Galaxy Digital and Coinbase Prime.

Implications for the Crypto Market

Such aggressive acquisition strategies have positioned SharpLink as the largest corporate holder of Ethereum, surpassing even the Ethereum Foundation itself. According to Lookonchain data, their market activity continues to rise steadily. Between June 2 and July 15, staking rewards alone brought them an additional 415 ETH—valued at around $1.49 million.
Analysts from Galaxy Research view these increased acquisitions as a positive signal for the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

Stock Market Reaction

Despite expert optimism about these strategic investments in cryptocurrency, SharpLink’s stock (SBET) saw a decline following this news. On July 17, shares fell by over 10%, reaching a low of $34.8 according to TradingView data; however, they partially recovered on July 18 and were priced at $36.16 during article preparation.
Since early 2025, SharpLink’s stock has climbed by an impressive 374%, though it remains about 54% below its peak earlier that year in May. The company currently boasts a market capitalization of approximately $2.37 billion.
Finally, it’s noteworthy that spot Ethereum ETFs recorded their largest-ever capital inflows on July 17—a testament to growing institutional interest and confidence in this leading cryptocurrency as a valuable asset class for financial portfolios worldwide.
This robust interest from both corporate entities like SharpLink and institutional investors highlights the ever-evolving dynamics within crypto markets while underscoring significant opportunities ahead for those willing—and able—to navigate them effectively.
