SEC’s Final Comments on Ethereum-ETF Applications Awaited

Potential issuers of spot Ethereum-ETFs are anxiously waiting for the final comments from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding their S-1 form applications. According to a report from The Block, these companies are seeking updated information from the regulator, having already submitted revised S-1 forms in compliance with the SEC’s requirements.
A representative from one of the issuers noted, “The next step is to hear from the SEC about what comes next. If they need a final submission, what is the deadline?”

Progress in the Approval Process

In May 2024, the SEC approved the spot Ethereum-ETFs under form 19b-4 from several major financial institutions including BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, Bitwise, VanEck, Ark, Invesco Galaxy, and Franklin Templeton. The companies are now in the second phase of the approval process, involving the submission of S-1 forms.
By July 8, all issuers, including BlackRock and VanEck, had filed their applications. Multiple rounds of submissions have taken place, each lasting over a week. Issuers are hopeful that the final approval of Ethereum-ETFs is imminent.

Potential Timeline and Expectations

“SEC continues to review the applications. It seems that approval is close. There might be another stage, but the timeline is still unclear,” an issuer commented. Previously, a Bitwise representative mentioned that spot Ethereum-ETFs are nearing the “finish line”.

Implications for the Crypto Market

The final approval of spot Ethereum-ETFs could have significant implications for the cryptocurrency market. It would likely increase institutional investment in Ethereum, providing more legitimacy and stability to the market. This move could also pave the way for additional crypto-based financial products, further integrating cryptocurrencies into the mainstream financial system.
With the final comments from the SEC expected soon, the crypto community is watching closely, anticipating a major milestone in the evolution of Ethereum-based financial products. The approval of these ETFs could mark a significant step forward, potentially influencing market dynamics and investor confidence in the broader cryptocurrency landscape.
