Ripple Labs announced on October 26, 2026, that it had received final authorization from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Ripple National Trust Bank, or RNTB. The approval allows Ripple to create a federally supervised national trust bank that will manage RLUSD reserves and provide custody for digital assets.
The final authorization completes the licensing process after the OCC conditionally approved Ripple’s application in December 2025. RNTB will not accept deposits.
RLUSD reserves and digital asset custody
RNTB’s mandate will include managing segregated reserves for the Ripple USD stablecoin, acting as trustee for collateral on behalf of RLUSD holders and providing custody for digital assets.
Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services, will remain the issuer of RLUSD. The new bank will therefore add a layer of federal oversight to the stablecoin’s infrastructure.
Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse said:
“For years, we’ve said that crypto and banks work better together. Final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank shows what that looks like in practice.”
Ripple said RLUSD’s market capitalization had reached $2.5 billion after the stablecoin launched in December 2024. RLUSD is used in the company’s payments infrastructure and as collateral on the Ripple Prime platform.
Once RNTB begins operations, it will be able to offer digital asset trust custody services to institutional clients. Ripple intends to continue working with the OCC and the NYDFS during the bank’s launch and the implementation of requirements under the GENIUS Act.
Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, received similar final authorization to establish a national trust bank in July 2026.
