Radiant Capital Announces DAO Wind Down After $50 Million Exploit

In a significant move for the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, Radiant Capital has announced an orderly winding down of its Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), following substantial financial setbacks. The decision follows two major exploits in 2024 that severely impacted the protocol’s stability and financial outlook.

Understanding the Shift: From Development to Support

Radiant Capital’s decision comes after grappling with the aftermath of a series of attacks in 2024. In January, the platform suffered an attack that resulted in a loss of approximately 1900 ETH. The situation worsened in October when hackers stole over $50 million. Despite efforts over the past 18 months to sustain operations and engage with users, Radiant Capital failed to recover stolen funds or secure new investments and grants.
The original announcement from Radiant Capital detailed plans to halt all active development immediately. Instead, operations will focus on maintaining limited protocol functionality until the end of 2026. Users can continue withdrawing funds, repaying loans, managing open positions, and earning rewards during this period.

A New Governance Structure

Following these challenges, governance transitioned from founder control to a community-elected council. This shift aimed to prioritize security measures and user compensation efforts. Radiant Capital also highlighted ongoing collaboration with zeroShadow—a company dedicated to tracking stolen funds—to aid in asset recovery for affected users.

Changes in Operations and Future Prospects

As part of this transition, Radiant Capital has ceased RDNT token emissions and disabled borrowing functions across all Core and RIZv1 markets. The treasury’s use is now restricted solely to critical operations necessary for user support and asset recovery processes.
Despite these changes, key resources such as their website, documentation hub, Discord server, Telegram channel, and X page remain active for user engagement until further notice; however, the online support chat has been closed immediately.
As DeFi protocols like Radiant Capital navigate these turbulent times marked by security threats and funding challenges, their experiences offer valuable lessons on resilience strategies within the crypto market landscape.
