Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said in a Sept. 26, 2026, post on X that Polygon’s POL token, formerly MATIC, remains “the most undervalued and underrated project.” He cited the permanent removal of about 1% of the token’s total supply and developments across the Polygon ecosystem.

According to Nailwal, the Polygon community burned 100 million POL accumulated through network revenue. He described the burn as one of the drivers behind the token’s growth.

Nailwal said approximately 25 million additional POL was ready to be burned, with that amount increasing each day.

“POL has become deflationary,” Nailwal said.

Nailwal also said Polymarket had launched perpetual contracts on Polygon.

According to Nailwal, recent network upgrades are bringing Polygon PoS closer to blockstreaming, with a confirmation time of around 1 millisecond.

He separately said the OMS system was nearing the ability to add 1 million transactions per day to the network.

Nailwal wrote: “11 million payments per second. We will never talk about throughput again.”

Polygon Labs announced layoffs and a shift in its development direction in July 2026.
