DePIN Platform Mawari Network on Solana Raises $10.8 Million in Funding

The decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) Mawari Network, built on Solana, has successfully raised $10.8 million in a strategic funding round. The round was spearheaded by prominent venture capital funds such as Anfield, Borderless Capital, and 1kx, with Borderless Capital’s managing partner Sean Carey joining the Mawari Network board of directors. Other notable participants in the funding round include Accord Ventures, Animoca Brands, Blockchange Ventures, Draper Dragon, Samsung Next, and several business angels.
In an interview with The Block, Mawari co-founder and CEO Luis Oscar Ramirez mentioned that the platform began seeking funds for this strategic round in March 2024. Ramirez declined to comment on the total valuation of the company but noted that the round was structured as a Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE).
It’s worth noting that in February 2023, the startup secured $6.5 million in funding, bringing Mawari Network’s total funding to $17.3 million.

About Mawari Network

Mawari is a DePIN platform on the Solana blockchain, focusing on scaling spatial computing. The name “Mawari” means “your surroundings” in Japanese. The concept for Mawari Network originated in 2016 during the organization of the digital art festival MUTEK Japan. According to Ramirez, digital artists at the time faced challenges such as data intensity, computational power, and scalability.
“Just as Netflix streams video to your device, Mawari delivers immersive, interactive 3D content to XR devices like smart glasses or headsets. Mawari handles heavy computational tasks (rendering) on powerful computers worldwide, ensuring smooth operation with minimal latency,” Ramirez explained.

Unique Position and Future Plans

Ramirez highlighted that Mawari has no direct competitors in the Web3 space but is often compared to Render Network (RNDR). However, Mawari’s key distinction lies in its real-time rendering capabilities. Currently, Mawari Network is in active development on Solana and plans to launch its mainnet in Q1 2025. The company employs 20 staff members, and the newly raised funds will be used to hire additional specialists in marketing, network design, and business development.

Implications for the Crypto Market

The successful funding round for Mawari Network underscores the growing interest and investment in decentralized physical infrastructure networks. As Mawari continues to develop and prepare for its mainnet launch, it represents a significant advancement in spatial computing and the broader blockchain ecosystem. With substantial backing from reputable venture funds and a clear roadmap, Mawari Network is poised to make a notable impact on the crypto market.
The recent investment highlights the potential for innovative blockchain solutions to address complex computational challenges, paving the way for more scalable and efficient digital experiences.
