Genesis Commences $4 Billion Distribution Among Creditors

Bankrupt crypto lender Genesis has announced the completion of its restructuring process and the initiation of a $4 billion distribution of digital and fiat assets among its creditors. The company has been working diligently to ensure that the compensation process is fair and transparent, and creditors are now set to receive their due funds.

Restructuring Outcome and Distribution Details

According to a recently published press release, Genesis aims to distribute an average of 64% of the owed funds in kind, although the exact percentage depends on the type of asset. For Bitcoin, creditors will receive 51.28% in kind, while Ethereum holders can expect 65.87%. Those holding altcoins, excluding Solana, will get 87.65% of their assets back. Notably, stablecoin and USD creditors will receive full compensation, whereas Solana holders will get 29.58%.

Instructions and Mechanism for Distribution

Genesis has already issued detailed instructions to its clients, explaining the distribution mechanism for digital assets and USD. The company emphasizes that it does not aim to limit compensation based on the asset value at the bankruptcy filing date, ensuring a fair process for all involved.

Litigation Fund and Future Legal Actions

As part of the restructuring plan, Genesis has created a $70 million litigation fund aimed at financing legal actions against third parties. This fund comprises $26 million in Bitcoin, $13 million in Ethereum, and $31 million in fiat currencies. While the Litigation Oversight Committee’s advisor has yet to be selected, the appointment is expected soon.

Background and Market Implications

Genesis’s restructuring and distribution come in the aftermath of its bankruptcy declaration following the collapse of the FTX exchange. This suspension of payments had a direct impact on Gemini, one of Genesis’s largest creditors. Earlier reports disclosed that Genesis had acquired 32,041 BTC after selling its GBTC shares.
The completion of Genesis’s restructuring and the initiation of distributions mark a significant step forward for the company and its creditors. It also sends a positive signal to the broader cryptocurrency market, demonstrating that even in challenging times, structured and fair resolutions are achievable.
This development is crucial for maintaining trust and stability within the crypto ecosystem, particularly for stakeholders affected by significant financial disruptions. By ensuring that creditors receive their due funds, Genesis is helping to restore confidence and pave the way for future growth and innovation in the cryptocurrency market.
