An In-Depth Look at FTX’s Fifth Compensation Round

Cryptocurrency exchange FTX has announced its fifth round of compensation payouts, which is scheduled to commence on July 31, 2026. This move aims to allocate about $900 million among creditors who met all requirements by June 16. With this new distribution, the total volume of compensations now exceeds $10 billion.
In October 2024, a court-approved FTX’s compensation plan that addresses claims totaling approximately $16 billion to $17 billion. A unique feature of this plan is that clients receive reimbursements based on their account value at the time of FTX’s bankruptcy in November 2023.

Previous Rounds: A Retrospective

Since initiating payments, FTX has completed four rounds:
– The first round began in February 2025, targeting primarily small clients with claims up to $50,000. These clients received a remarkable reimbursement rate of 119%, distributing a total of $454 million.
– The second round launched in May that same year and included a broader range of clients. This phase saw around $5 billion being distributed.
– By September, the third round offered compensations between 78% and 120%, amounting to a total disbursement of $1.6 billion.
– The fourth round occurred in March 2026, distributing an additional $2.2 billion.

Insights from Stakeholders

According to Sunil Kavuri, an FTX creditor who shared insights through his social media, both large and small creditors will benefit from this fifth round. Small creditors make up about 9% of the total sum distributed. Reimbursement rates are expected to reach up to 120% for larger claims and approximately 105% for smaller ones.
To receive compensation, creditors must undergo verification and provide proof regarding their account status—a detailed guide is available separately.

Navigating Real Compensation Levels

Despite FTX’s claim that it returns up to 120% of client funds, Kavuri notes that actual levels might be lower due to fluctuations in cryptocurrency valuations post-bankruptcy. Previously he indicated real reimbursement figures ranging from as low as 9% to as high as 46%, reflecting crypto asset appreciation over subsequent years.
The announcement regarding the fifth payout installment not only marks significant progress for FTX but also underscores the ongoing complexities within crypto markets—highlighting both risks and opportunities inherent in digital finance evolution. Such developments continue impacting market dynamics profoundly while shaping future regulatory landscapes globally.
