Zhao’s Response to WSJ Report

In response to the WSJ article, Zhao took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval. He stated that those who become government witnesses do not go to prison, highlighting his own four-month sentence as evidence against the claims. Zhao’s imprisonment from April to September 2024 was for violations related to anti-money laundering laws.
A Political Campaign?
According to Zhao, the publication is part of a political campaign aimed at undermining him and Binance. He emphasized that he was forewarned about WSJ’s plans for such a publication.

Following an agreement with U.S. authorities, Zhao stepped down from his role at Binance and was prohibited from holding executive positions within the company.
