Unveiling the Fraudulent Crypto Exchange: Money 24/7
In a significant breakthrough, Ukrainian cyber police have dismantled a fraudulent network operating under the guise of a legitimate currency and crypto exchange service known as Money 24/7. This fake platform claimed to offer currency exchange points and cryptocurrency services but was merely an elaborate scam designed to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The Deceptive Scheme
The investigation revealed that the mastermind behind Money 24/7, alongside accomplices, had set up a pseudo-financial platform. They cleverly marketed it as a legitimate operation using specially created web resources, a Telegram channel, and even a registered trademark. The facade extended to establishing an office decorated as a cash acceptance point.
Customers were lured into exchanging their cash for crypto assets by submitting requests online. Once they arrived at the office, they handed over their money with expectations of receiving cryptocurrency directly into their electronic wallets. However, the fraudsters had no intention of fulfilling these transactions. To stall victims from reporting them immediately to authorities, they occasionally transferred small amounts of crypto or provided written guarantees promising transaction completion.
Law Enforcement’s Response
In July 2026, law enforcement agents executed more than 20 raids across seven regions in Ukraine with support from the TacTeam special unit. These operations resulted in seizing over 20 million UAH in multiple currencies along with computers, mobile phones, data storage devices, and documents crucial for further investigations.
The suspect faces charges for orchestrating large-scale property acquisition through deceit by premeditated conspiracy among group members. The court has placed him under arrest pending trial with an alternative bail option set at 998,400 UAH.
Implications for the Crypto Market
The exposure of such fraudulent activities highlights vital concerns within the cryptocurrency market regarding security and trustworthiness. As digital currencies continue gaining popularity globally due to their potential benefits like decentralization and privacy protection features; cases like this underscore why rigorous regulatory oversight is essential for fostering secure environments where investors can engage confidently without fear of scams or frauds undermining industry integrity.
