## Solana Blockchain’s Decentralized Exchanges Achieve Record Trading Volume
Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) on the Solana blockchain have achieved a new milestone in monthly trading volumes. In March, these exchanges recorded a staggering $60.34 billion in trading volume, setting a new monthly record.
This performance more than doubled the previous record of nearly $28.14 billion, which was set in December 2023. This volume ranks as the second-highest across all blockchains, with Ethereum taking the lead at $77.55 billion in trading volume for the month.
Meanwhile, the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) claimed the third spot with a DEX trading volume of $47.81 billion. The fourth position went to the Arbitrum blockchain, posting a trading volume of $27.74 billion. Worth noting, the trading volume on the BASE platform surged by almost seven times within the month, reaching a remarkable $7.8 billion.
## The Influence of Memecoins in the Solana Ecosystem
The spike in trading volume coincided with a significant surge in interest in memecoins within the Solana ecosystem. Leading performers like Dogwifhat (WIF) and Bonk (BONK) have been instrumental in this drive, together with newer entrants like Book of Meme (BOME) and Slerf (SLERF).
Memecoins attached to political figures, such as Donald Trump and Joe Biden, also saw substantial gains in March. Other meme coins on Solana, like Popcat (POPCAT), experienced significant increases, recording a 45% rise to a price above $0.33.
Despite the inherent volatility of the meme coin market, Dogwifhat closed March with an impressive growth of 43.9%, while Bonk registered a 1.3% increase by the end of the month.
## The Dominance of Leading DEXs on Solana
In the Solana DEX space, Orca emerged as the leader, posting a trading volume of $3.6 billion in the past week. Raydium and Phoenix followed closely, recording trading volumes of $1.73 billion and $1.6 billion respectively.
This period of increased trading activity notably benefited Jupiter, a decentralized exchange aggregator on Solana. Its native token, JUP, surged by 24.9% over the past week.
As meme coins continue to fuel buying frenzies on the Solana network, the SOL token itself started April with a 4% decrease in its value over the last 24 hours, with its price currently hovering just below $189.
However, even with this slight downturn, Solana’s market capitalization hit a new all-time high in March, surpassing $90 billion. This achievement mirrors the explosive growth and engagement within the decentralized finance sector and the dynamic meme coin market. Source
