Community Criticism Over ZKsync Airdrop
The cryptocurrency community recently voiced strong criticism of the ZKsync team. The controversy centers around the distribution of ZK tokens in their recent airdrop. Many users are upset that some crypto wallets with zero transaction history allegedly qualify for ZK tokens.
Project Coin Metrika compiled these community statements, sharing them on their X (formerly Twitter) page:
Airdrop failure from @zkSync or where is the decentralization? Blockchain is a transparent territory. Traces remain, even if someone leaves an airstream for maneuvering. The @zksync team has made a sensation in the crypto community with the most opaque distribution possible.… pic.twitter.com/p6Nn0j50mE

Transparency and Distribution Concerns
The primary point of contention is that approximately 13,000 wallets eligible for ZK tokens, according to community claims, have not interacted with the project networks. Data from a user dashboard on Dune Analytics indicates that these addresses collectively received 105.8 million ZK tokens. Additionally, wallets with just one transaction are set to receive another 6.6 million ZK.
One notable address, eligible for 81,852 ZK tokens, meets the distribution criteria on the official ZKsync site. However, Debank reveals that this wallet has a zero balance and no transaction history.
- 13,000 wallets with no project interaction may receive ZK tokens.
- 105.8 million ZK allocated to these addresses.
- Debank shows some wallets have zero balance and transaction history.
Disparity in Reward Distribution
Further criticism arose from the observation that only 9,000 addresses will receive 100,000 ZK tokens or more, representing 4.3% of the total asset supply. The gap between the smallest drop of 917 ZK and the largest of 100,000 ZK is over 100-fold, an unprecedented disparity in similar projects.
The community also expressed frustration over the lack of transparency, ineffective measures against Sybil attacks, and unfair reward distribution.
ZK Nation’s Response
In response, ZK Nation, a new community led by the ZKsync team, commented on the situation, highlighting a wave of misinformation on X, propagated by bots.
Meanwhile, something important you need to know. There is a massive, coordinated, Sybil misinformation campaign against ZKsync on X. Run by thousands of bots.

They also noted that some wallets, claimed by the community to be eligible for tokens, do not meet the criteria.
The ZKsync airdrop is expected next week, with claims opening on June 17, 2024, as per their official website. This event will be closely watched by the crypto community, eager to see how the distribution issues are addressed and what impact this will have on ZKsync’s reputation and the broader market.
