Preliminary law enforcement data put the total volume of financial transactions at 23.5 billion hryvnias. Investigators said funds were siphoned off partly through cryptocurrency transactions, while the preliminarily established amount of tax evasion was about 3 billion hryvnias.
Law enforcement officers conducted 50 searches as part of the criminal proceedings and seized millions in cash. Scheme participants were also served with notices of suspicion.
The PGO and BEB have not disclosed further details about how the alleged scheme operated. Law enforcement officials said they would provide additional information later.
