Bitwise: Institutional Investors in Bitcoin ETFs Increased by 14% in Q2 2024

The number of institutional investors holding Bitcoin ETFs has seen a remarkable 14% increase in the second quarter of 2024, according to Bitwise. This surge marks a significant rise from 965 to 1100 investors, highlighting a growing trend in cryptocurrency investments.

Rising Institutional Interest

Bitwise reports that the percentage of institutional investors in the total assets under management (AUM) also saw an uptick, climbing from 18.74% to 21.15%. By the end of Q2 2024, institutions were holding Bitcoin ETFs worth $11 billion. Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, noted that institutional buying during periods of price instability is a positive indicator. He added, “Imagine what could happen in a bull market.”

Unprecedented Adoption Rates

The report also highlights that Bitcoin ETFs have been adopted by institutions at the fastest rate among all ETFs in history. This rapid adoption suggests a strong and growing confidence in Bitcoin as a valuable asset. The report further predicts that fund inflows into Bitcoin ETFs will increase in 2025 and 2026, surpassing the levels seen in 2024.

Market Dynamics and Predictions

Despite this positive institutional trend, CryptoQuant analysts have observed a decline in Bitcoin demand since April 2024, approaching negative levels in recent weeks. This decline is attributed to reduced purchase volumes of Bitcoin ETFs in the US. Previously, it was reported that Goldman Sachs invested $418 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs, indicating continued interest from major financial institutions.

The growing institutional participation in Bitcoin ETFs and the projected increase in fund inflows suggest a promising future for Bitcoin as a mainstream investment. As more institutions recognize the potential of Bitcoin, the crypto market could witness significant growth and stability in the coming years.
