Expanding Market Presence

In a strategic move, Binance.US is setting its sights on capturing a 20% share of the U.S. cryptocurrency market. This ambitious goal was articulated by CEO Steven Gregory in an interview with CoinDesk. The exchange plans to achieve this milestone by leveraging near-zero transaction fees and introducing innovative products tailored for both retail and institutional traders.

Operational Independence

Gregory emphasized that Binance.US functions as a distinct entity from its global counterpart, despite sharing branding and ownership links. “Binance.US is an American company designed exclusively for local clients,” he stated, underscoring their separate organizational structures.

Overcoming Regulatory Challenges

Binance.US has faced regulatory hurdles linked to investigations into the global Binance platform by U.S. authorities. However, Gregory assured that these issues are now behind them, allowing for renewed focus on market expansion.

Aiming for Competitive Advantage

The strategy to claim a larger market share involves attracting retail traders through low fees and offering new financial products. Additionally, the company is seeking a trust bank license from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). When questioned about revenue generation amidst low fees, Gregory highlighted other income sources bolstered by a well-optimized corporate structure.
Both retail and institutional traders seek liquidity—an asset that Binance aims to bring stateside by transferring capital concentrated on its global platform.

Market Outlook

Gregory expressed optimism about current market conditions, noting that while nearing a low point, today’s crypto landscape appears healthier than in previous cycles. He believes this phase is ideal for expansion and innovation in product development.

Navigating Legal Turbulence

In mid-2023, Binance faced scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Justice over alleged money laundering prevention failures and sanctions violations. This led to a significant $4.3 billion penalty settlement later in November, accompanied by CEO Changpeng Zhao stepping down from his roles at both Binance Global and Binance.US.
Subsequent layoffs hit the American division amid ongoing challenges including an unsuccessful lawsuit filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against Binance.US.
Despite these obstacles, data indicates that as of June 2026, competitors such as Coinbase lead with a 35.32% market share followed closely by Crypto.com at 26.11% and Kraken at 17.42%.
Binance.US also faced political scrutiny over listing USD1 stablecoin connected to World Liberty Financial linked with former President Donald Trump’s family—a claim they deny holds political bias but nonetheless drew increased attention.
The quest for dominance continues as Binance.US works towards expanding its footprint in America’s dynamic cryptocurrency landscape.
