Market Overview

In the report titled ‘В Binance представили отчет по крипторынку за первое полугодие 2024 года’, Binance Research highlighted the overall growth and recovery of the cryptocurrency market. The total market capitalization rose by 37.3% to $2.27 trillion from January to June 2024. The most substantial increase occurred in the first quarter, with a 60.2% surge, while the second quarter saw a slight decline of 14.3%.

L1 and L2 Projects: Significant Developments

Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 2 (L2) projects showed positive momentum. Bitcoin’s market dominance increased, particularly after its halving event on April 20. Other notable developments included the launch of the Runes protocol, approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US, Ethereum’s EIP-4844 update, and advancements in Solana’s network with new memecoins and blockchain integrations. Additionally, opBNB and Greenfield networks under BNB Chain saw significant improvements.
L2 protocols also saw growth, highlighted by a series of airdrops from projects like ZKSync, LayerZero, and Blast. This sector’s total value locked (TVL) grew by 90%, reaching $43 billion.

DeFi Sector: Remarkable Growth

Decentralized finance (DeFi) experienced a substantial influx of capital, with TVL growing by 72.8% to $94.1 billion in the first half of 2024. This growth benefited almost all DeFi sectors, from mainstream to niche markets.

Stablecoin Market: Strong Recovery

The stablecoin market showed significant recovery, with a capitalization of $161 billion by June 30, 2024. This figure is just 14.5% shy of the peak observed in April 2022, prior to the TerraUSD (UST) collapse. Tether’s USDT continues to dominate, while Circle’s USDC and Ethena’s USDe are gaining market share.

NFT and Gaming Sectors: Challenging Times

The NFT market faced turbulence, with declining sales and lower valuations for major projects. Despite this, Blur maintained its dominance due to the Blast token airdrop, and Pudgy Penguins succeeded with their physical toys. In the gaming sector, while token capitalization fell, user growth reached record highs, with projects like Pixels and Hamster Kombat attracting large player bases through token airdrop promises.

Other Noteworthy Areas

Memecoins, artificial intelligence (AI), and decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN) continued to attract strong interest from investors and the broader community during the first half of 2024.
The first six months of 2024 have been a period of significant recovery and development for the cryptocurrency market. Continued innovation and investor interest suggest a promising trajectory for the remainder of the year.
