Balancer DAO Considers Compensation Plan for $110 Million Exploit Victims
In a significant move within the cryptocurrency sector, Balancer DAO has initiated discussions on a compensation plan following a major security breach. The attack on November 3, 2025, resulted in over $110 million being drained from Balancer v2’s vaults. This incident marks the third severe security breach for the protocol.
Compensation Strategy
According to Balancer DAO member Xeonus, the plan involves reimbursing LPs with tokens they held at the time of the attack. Recovered assets span several networks including Ethereum, Polygon, Base, and Arbitrum. Tokens such as WETH, rETH, WPOL, and MaticX are part of this restitution scheme. Importantly, payments will be proportional to each pool’s share.
Rewards for White Hat Hackers
The compensation strategy also includes rewards for white hat hackers who assisted in asset rescue efforts. These rewards are governed by the Safe Harbor agreement previously adopted by Balancer. To qualify for these incentives, individuals must undergo KYC processes and sanctions checks. Interestingly though some anonymous rescuers have opted out of receiving any reward due to personal privacy choices.
Additional Recoveries and Legal Adjustments
After the attack date mentioned above both internal teams at Balancer along with external researchers managed to recover portions of stolen funds. StakeWise project has independently restored an additional $19.7 million in osETH and osGNO assets which will be distributed separately.
Certora played a pivotal role returning $4.1 million however contractual obligations prevent them from claiming any reward despite their efforts.
Balancer DAO is considering updating its claims process whereby affected users would need acceptance towards newly stipulated terms before obtaining compensations if approved via community vote these steps become mandatory prerequisites prior payout distribution ensuring compliance transparency throughout entire procedure ultimately safeguarding interests all stakeholders involved therein.
This unfortunate event has significantly impacted Balancer’s ecosystem leading TVL figures plummeting from approximately $775 million down sharply towards current levels hovering near just around about only slightly more than half former value alongside BAL tokens suffering approximately thirty percent decline valuation wise amidst broader market repercussions stemming directly indirectly connected various factors contributing simultaneous occurrences exacerbating effects felt throughout decentralized finance landscape overall industry wide ramifications yet hopes remain high continued resilience adaptation innovation shall prevail overcoming adversity collaboratively united front determined securing prosperous future collectively achieved together concerted effort moving forward positively constructively optimistically onward upwards evermore!
