BNB Foundation announced the completion of the quarterly burn on October 19. The removed tokens were valued at about $1.2 billion based on the exchange rate at the time of the operation.
BNB’s total supply stood at 131,512,085 tokens after the burn, according to data current as of 10:05 UTC on October 19.
The asset showed little immediate reaction to the announcement, according to the hourly BNB/USDT chart on Binance available through TradingView.
Burn mechanisms
The transaction was carried out directly on BNB Smart Chain, or BSC. The tokens were sent to a special address from which they cannot be withdrawn.
BNB uses an Auto-Burn mechanism to reduce supply. The system automatically calculates the quarterly burn amount based on BNB’s market price and the number of blocks produced on BSC. Its ultimate goal is to reduce the token supply to 100 million BNB.
BNB Foundation said the Lorentz and Maxwell upgrades increased the frequency of block production. Developers subsequently adjusted the Auto-Burn formula’s parameters while preserving its original operating principle.
BSC also uses the BEP-95 mechanism, which continuously burns a portion of transaction fees. The amount burned through that mechanism depends on network activity.
Previous burn and network plans
BNB Chain conducted its 36th quarterly burn in July 2026, destroying about 1.62 million BNB worth $931.7 million.
The BNB Chain team has also announced a next-generation layer-1 blockchain for agentic trading, with its launch planned for 2027.
