Animoca Brands and Currenc Group Inc. have paused discussions on their proposed reverse merger after announcing the planned transaction on November 3, 2025. The deal would have listed Animoca Brands on Nasdaq through a reverse merger with fintech company Currenc Group, whose ticker is CURR, enabling Animoca Brands to enter the public equity markets.
The companies made the decision after reviewing the expected timeline for closing the transaction and assessing changed market conditions. They concluded that the anticipated interim period required to complete the deal did not align with their short- and medium-term strategic objectives.
Animoca Brands and Currenc Group did not rule out resuming discussions if conditions allow.
Public-listing preparations continue
Animoca Brands said it remains fully committed to relisting on a major public exchange and will continue its work on public-market readiness and corporate governance.
The company is also progressing along its financial compliance roadmap. On July 17, 2026, Animoca Brands published audited financial statements for fiscal year 2023, its second set of audited statements released this year.
Animoca Brands is preparing audited financial statements for fiscal year 2024. The company said completing both reports would mark an important milestone.
“While we highly value the proposed merger with Currenc Group, corporate flexibility must remain a priority. Today, we reaffirm our focus from a position of significant operational strength, a unique portfolio of digital assets and AI, and a purposeful drive toward meeting compliance milestones,” Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu said.
Siu said the company would continue seeking the best routes to a public listing while advancing the audit processes required to meet the standards of a major public exchange.
Animoca Brands previously planned to conduct an initial public offering in the U.S., according to an earlier report. Siu said at the time that the U.S. administration’s change in approach to digital assets created an opportunity for the company to enter the largest capital market.
