In a significant development in the cryptocurrency world, Ukrainian citizen Elena Oblamska has been extradited from Thailand to face charges in the United States concerning her alleged involvement in a massive $340 million crypto pyramid scheme known as Forsage. This case highlights ongoing challenges within the decentralized finance (DeFi) space.

The Charges Against Forsage Co-founder

Elena Oblamska, also known online as “Lola Ferrari,” appeared before a federal court in Portland, Oregon on May 11, 2026. She faces accusations of conspiracy to commit fraud using electronic communications and has not pleaded guilty. The court has ordered her detention until her trial begins on July 14. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.

The Alleged Scheme and Its Operations

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists reports that Oblamska was apprehended during a cybercrime raid in Phuket earlier this year. Prosecutors allege that Forsage founders launched their platform in January 2020 as a decentralized investment project utilizing Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and TRON.
According to the indictment, users purchasing slots on Forsage had their funds automatically distributed among earlier participants via smart contracts—a hallmark trait of Ponzi schemes. Additionally, prosecutors claim that some investor funds were funneled into wallets controlled by the accused through an xGold smart contract.

Investor Losses and Disputed Claims

The U.S. Department of Justice indicates that over 80% of Forsage participants received less money than they invested; more than half did not recoup anything at all. Moreover, claims by project representatives that fifty individuals became millionaires thanks to Forsage have been disputed by prosecutors who argue only accounts controlled by organizers amassed substantial wealth from this scheme.

Other Suspects Remain Free

Vladimir Okhotnikov, Mikhail Sergeev, and Sergey Maslakov are still at large; authorities believe Okhotnikov is hiding out in Dubai. Media reports previously linked him with co-writing and producing “Saga of Holigard – Portal of Power,” featuring actor Kevin Spacey while facing unrelated charges back home like money laundering tied directly back into operations run through this controversial platform.
