Tether Revamps Bitcoin Mining Approach

Tether has announced a revolutionary step in Bitcoin mining by unveiling a new infrastructure based on modular computing systems. This initiative is designed to offer greater control over energy expenditure, performance, and scalability. By collaborating with Canaan and ACME Swisstech, Tether is moving away from conventional turnkey solutions towards a more integrated and flexible system utilizing individual hash boards.

Innovative Modular Systems

Traditional mining setups often function as isolated entities, limiting efficiency at large data centers. In contrast, Tether’s novel approach divides key components into distinct modules for computation, power supply, casing, and cooling. This modularity allows operators to optimize each element separately while scaling the infrastructure progressively.

Focusing on Efficiency and Control

A standout feature of this new infrastructure is immersion cooling technology. This technique reduces overheating risks while enhancing system stability. The modular design empowers operators to update individual components without replacing entire systems, adapt performance to current conditions, and ultimately lower operational costs.
“Most existing mining infrastructures are fixed systems that are costly and inefficient to scale,” stated Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “By reimagining these as customizable modules that can be independently adjusted or cooled, we aim to directly manage costs, efficiency, and performance at scale.”

Paradigm Shift in Mining Operations

ACME Swisstech highlighted the shift in paradigm brought about by their close collaboration with Canaan and Tether. They focus on creating mining systems that differ radically from today’s ready-to-use products.
Nangeng Zhang of Canaan added that there is a growing demand for high-performance modular equipment that integrates seamlessly into custom client systems.

A Strategic Continuation

This project builds upon previous initiatives such as launching an open platform Mining OS (MOS), developing SDKs for developers, and investing significantly in mining infrastructure. These efforts align with Ardoino’s vision of making Tether a major player in the cryptocurrency sector.
Despite ambitious developments like owning around 100,000 BTC with aspirations of becoming the largest Bitcoin miner by 2025’s end, challenges persist. Notably, in November 2025, Tether had to halt its Uruguay mining project due to uncompetitive electricity tariffs.
Through these advancements, Tether not only aims at enhancing operational efficiencies but also sets a precedent for innovation within the cryptocurrency landscape—marking its potential impact on future industry standards.
