Robinhood Announces Purchase of WonderFi to Enter Canadian Market
In an exciting development for the cryptocurrency world, American investment platform Robinhood has announced its intention to acquire WonderFi Technologies Inc. This strategic move aims at further expanding Robinhood’s footprint by entering the Canadian crypto market.

Expanding Horizons: The Details of the Acquisition

The total value of this acquisition is slated at nearly $179 million, equivalent to CAD 250 million. As per the official statement from Robinhood, WonderFi manages over CAD 2.1 billion in assets and operates Bitbuy and Coinsquare—two of Canada’s pioneering registered crypto exchanges.
The deal includes a significant premium: a 41% increase over the closing price as of May 12, 2025, and a remarkable 71% over the average price for the last 30 days. The purchase price agreed upon stands at CAD 0.36 per share.

A Vision for Accessible Cryptocurrency

Johann Kerbrat, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Robinhood Crypto, emphasized that WonderFi’s robust ecosystem caters to both novice and experienced users, making it an ideal partner for advancing their mission in Canada. On completion—which awaits approval from regulators and shareholders—WonderFi shareholders will receive full cash compensation for their shares.
Dean Skurka, President and CEO of WonderFi, highlighted that both companies share a common vision: making cryptocurrencies accessible and appealing to a wide range of users.

Strategic Integration and Synergy

According to Bobby Halpern, Executive Chairman at WonderFi, this acquisition represents not just an achievement but also serves as a launchpad for Robinhood’s entry into Canada. Upon finalizing the agreement in late 2025, all existing products under WonderFi will continue operations seamlessly post-acquisition.
Additionally, Robinhood already maintains an infrastructure hub in Toronto with more than 140 employees ready to support local operations. The leadership team from WonderFi is expected to join forces with Robinhood Crypto, ensuring smooth integration into local markets.

Charting New Courses in Cryptocurrency Markets

This acquisition marks another significant milestone for Robinhood as it continues expanding its cryptocurrency offerings globally. Earlier this year, Robinhood had also announced collaborations with CME Group for futures trading—a testament to its commitment towards broadening access within digital asset markets across various geographies.
By uniting efforts through strategic partnerships like these—and pursuing innovative avenues—Robinhood seeks not only growth but greater democratization within cryptocurrency landscapes around the world.
