MANTRA Team Announces Burning of 300 Million OM Tokens

The cryptocurrency platform MANTRA has made significant strides with its recent announcement concerning a massive token burn. The team declared that they have burned 300 million OM tokens, which equates to approximately $156 million based on current exchange rates. Intriguingly, half of these tokens belonged to John Patrick Mullin, the project’s founder. This move serves as evidence that Mullin is fulfilling his promise following a notable decline in the OM token’s market value.

The Reason Behind the Token Burn

In response to inquiries about this strategic decision, MANTRA’s developers revealed that recent market turbulence was largely due to liquidations on centralized exchanges (CEX). However, neither Mullin nor early investors and other developers sold their assets during this downturn. Instead, they opted for a bold approach—burning their own holdings.

Strategic Implications and Future Plans

The burning process has already begun for Mullin’s tokens, which were initially locked during the mainnet launch in October 2024. This process is set for completion by April 29, 2025. Upon completion, these assets will effectively be reduced “to zero.” Moreover, discussions are ongoing with early participants and investors to enhance the total amount of burned tokens up to 300 million.
This initiative is not just about reducing supply; it also aims to lower the proportion of staked OM from 31.47% down to around 25.3%. Such an adjustment is anticipated to boost staking yields significantly.

Market Reaction and Prospective Outcomes

Following this news release, there was an observable surge in OM’s trading price on Binance—spiking momentarily up to $0.535 before slightly retracting. Despite this immediate reaction showing over a 2% gain on daily charts, weekly and monthly trends reflect declines of 11.9% and a staggering 91.6%, respectively.
Previously reported collaborations between MANTRA and UAE-based conglomerate DAMAC Group highlight broader efforts towards real estate tokenization—a venture estimated at around $1 billion.
Overall, these developments underscore MANTRA’s proactive measures in navigating volatile markets while striving towards innovation within blockchain technology sectors—integral aspects likely influencing future trajectories within crypto ecosystems globally.
