Grayscale Investments Seeks to Convert XRP Trust to Spot ETF
Grayscale Investments has taken a significant step in the cryptocurrency market by applying to convert its Grayscale XRP Trust into a spot ETF. This move mirrors the company’s previous actions with its Bitcoin and Ethereum funds, successfully reorganizing them into spot ETFs. By doing so, Grayscale aims to become the sixth counterparty in the United States interested in launching a product of this nature, alongside other prominent names like Bitwise, Canary Capital, and WisdomTree.
The Launch and Performance of Grayscale XRP Trust
The Grayscale XRP Trust was launched in September 2024, initially as a closed fund available exclusively to accredited investors. According to the official website, the trust has achieved a remarkable three-month yield of 235.24%. As of the latest update, the net asset value (NAV) per share is $61.78, nearing its historical peak. The trust experienced a rapid growth phase towards the end of 2024, driven by increased attention to the XRP asset. By January 2025, XRP had surged into the top three cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, reaching new all-time highs.
The Growing Interest in Spot XRP ETFs
Grayscale’s recent application signifies a growing interest in spot XRP ETFs in the US market. The firm joins a competitive field, as other key players have also submitted applications for similar products. This trend highlights the increasing demand among investors for more diverse and accessible cryptocurrency investment options.
Market Reaction and Future Prospects
Interestingly, the XRP market has shown little response to the news of Grayscale’s application, with the cryptocurrency trading slightly above $3. As per TradingView, the XRP/USDT exchange rate on Binance remains stable.
In the context of this development, Eleanor Terrett, a journalist from Fox Business, stated that the activity among ETF issuers submitting applications might increase during the week of February 3-7, 2025. There is also the possibility that additional companies could join the race to launch an XRP ETF.
This strategic move by Grayscale Investments marks another milestone in the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency investment products. As the market adapts to these innovations, investors and industry stakeholders continue to observe the implications of such advancements on the broader crypto ecosystem.
