Ethereum Developers Postpone Glamsterdam Upgrade on Hoodi Testnet

  • Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, previously scheduled for October 26, 2026.
  • The delay allows further study of EIP-8037’s interaction with mainnet smart contracts but does not change the mainnet upgrade timeline.
  • Developers have not set a new Hoodi activation date.

Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam network upgrade on the Hoodi testnet during the ACDE #248 core developer call. They moved the activation from October 26, 2026, to allow additional research into how EIP-8037 interacts with mainnet smart contracts.

A new activation date has not been set. The decision cancels the planned October 26 activation of the Amsterdam execution layer and the Gloas consensus layer, as well as the planned increase of Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million.

The postponement does not alter Hoodi’s blockchain history and only delays the upgrade’s activation. Developers will announce a new schedule later.

Guidance for Hoodi operators

Hoodi node operators and validators were advised to check their execution- and consensus-layer software and update any configurations that still list the previous activation date.

Developers cautioned that client versions cited in the previous announcement should not be treated as confirmation that the canceled activation date has already been accounted for. Operators should follow the latest release notes and guidance from client teams.

New software releases reflecting the revised schedule will be added to the official announcement after they are confirmed. Instructions for validators and operators of external block-building infrastructure will also be published following confirmation.

Mainnet timeline unchanged

Application developers were advised not to plan Hoodi testing around the previously scheduled October 26 Glamsterdam activation.

The postponement does not determine the date of the Ethereum mainnet upgrade or change its timeline. Mainnet users and Ethereum holders do not need to take any action because of the Hoodi decision.

In August, the Ethereum team launched the Platåberget testnet to test the Glamsterdam upgrade.
