- DekaBank will gradually introduce cryptocurrency trading for Sparkasse customers through participating banks’ mobile apps.
- Customers will initially be able to trade bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Polygon for a fee of €0.99 per order.
- DekaBank will provide trading, custody and customer support under a BaFin license received in 2025.
German financial holding company DekaBank announced that it will gradually roll out a cryptocurrency service for Sparkasse savings bank customers over the coming months. The initiative will give customers of the traditional banking system access to digital assets through regulated infrastructure.
Each Sparkasse will decide independently whether to add the service to its offering. Customers of participating banks will access it through a separate section under the “Investing” category in the relevant app, without having to open an investment account.
At launch, the service will support five cryptocurrencies: bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP and Polygon (POL). DekaBank will charge €0.99 for each trade order.
Trading and custody arrangements
The service is intended exclusively for adult Sparkasse customers who make their own investment decisions. DekaBank warned that investments in crypto assets involve significant risks and that prices can fluctuate sharply.
DekaBank said “Krypto – powered by Deka” is intended to offer customers who are comfortable with digital technologies and independently manage their investments a regulated and secure way to invest in crypto assets.
The company attributed the launch to the European MiCAR regulatory regime, which establishes requirements for crypto assets and related service providers, as well as investor-protection rules.
DekaBank received the necessary license from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, or BaFin, in 2025. The authorization allows DekaBank to centrally provide trading, custody and customer support services.
The cryptocurrencies and their private keys will be held in a Deka wallet. DekaBank, the investment arm of Germany’s Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe savings bank group, has provided crypto-asset custody infrastructure to institutional clients since 2025.
