Bitcoin’s Remarkable Growth in May

May 2025 proved to be a noteworthy month for both Bitcoin and Ethereum. In an impressive display of resilience and growth, Bitcoin closed the month with a robust increase of 10.99%. Notably, this marked the seventh instance where Bitcoin ended May on a positive note. The previous year also saw Bitcoin achieving similar success with an 11.07% gain.
During this period, Bitcoin experienced several price fluctuations. Most strikingly, on May 21-22, its value surged to a record-breaking $111,800 before slightly retracting under $108,000 following President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding tariffs on EU imports. However, once it was declared that these tariffs were postponed, Bitcoin quickly recovered from its dip.

The Impact of External Factors

The cryptocurrency market often reacts to global economic events, and May was no exception. After President Trump’s tariff announcement led to temporary volatility in Bitcoin prices, further fluctuations were observed when U.S. federal courts initially revoked these tariffs only for them to be reinstated temporarily during ongoing legal proceedings.

Ethereum’s Surge Driven by Pectra Update

Ethereum also had a standout performance in May with an impressive monthly gain of 40.84%, marking its seventh positive closure for May as well. The most substantial monthly increase recorded for Ethereum occurred back in 2017 when it skyrocketed by over 161%.
A pivotal factor contributing to Ethereum’s recent surge was the introduction of the Pectra update. This technological advancement propelled Ethereum’s price beyond $2200 shortly after its implementation and subsequently pushed it past $2700.

The Current Market Landscape

Currently trading at $2510 on Binance, Ethereum continues to captivate investors with its potential for growth and innovation within the blockchain space.
In April 2025, while Bitcoin recorded a commendable rise of 14%, Ethereum experienced a slight dip before rebounding strongly in May.
