One-Third of New Websites Created with AI: Report

  • AI-generated content is dominating the creation of new websites, with significant implications for the digital landscape.
  • The integration of AI in content creation is leading to a more positive yet less unique internet experience.
  • Concerns over AI’s influence include semantic reduction, misinformation, and loss of individuality in online content.

The Rise of AI in Website Creation

The article titled ‘A Third of New Websites Are AI-Generated — Report’ highlights a substantial shift in the digital ecosystem. As of mid-2025, over 35% of new websites are crafted using artificial intelligence (AI), marking a significant transformation. This trend points to a rapid “capture” of the web by AI technologies within just three years. The study, conducted by researchers from Stanford University, Imperial College London, and Internet Archive, analyzed websites created from 2022 through mid-2025. This period was chosen because the prevalence of AI-generated sites before ChatGPT’s release in late November 2022 was nearly nonexistent.

Impact on Content Uniqueness and Positivity

Experts confirm that while AI-generated content makes the internet more positive due to its tone and style, it simultaneously leads to decreased uniqueness. The spread of such content results in higher semantic similarity and positivity scores—33% and 107% respectively—compared to human-generated counterparts.

How AI Detection Tools are Used

The detection and analysis were facilitated by Pangram v3, which emerged as the most effective tool for identifying AI-created text. The data indicates that since mid-2022, there’s been an upward trend in websites developed either wholly or partially by AI. By May 2025, these figures reached 17.6% for fully generated sites and 35.3% for those aided by AI.

Public Perception and Concerns

A survey involving 853 U.S. respondents revealed that over half regularly use AI technologies weekly or daily; however, only 44% view it positively. Participants expressed concerns about six potential negative impacts: semantic reduction (fewer unique ideas), increased misinformation, overly positive shifts (sterile texts), epistemic islands (unverified responses), entropy dilution (loss of meaning due to constant growth), and stylistic monoculture (loss of individuality).
Notably, two hypotheses were confirmed: semantic reduction and positive shift tendencies were evident among AI-generated sites.

The Broader Impact on Cryptocurrency Markets

As we consider this transformation’s implications on cryptocurrency markets, it’s essential to recognize how blockchain technologies might intersect with these trends. The blending of crypto innovations with rapidly advancing AI could lead to automated trading platforms and more sophisticated market analyses driven by vast data sets processed efficiently by machine learning algorithms.
The increasing use of AI could also influence investor sentiment through more engaging user experiences on crypto-related platforms powered by dynamic content generation tools.
In summary, while integrating artificial intelligence into website creation offers certain benefits like enhanced positivity in communication styles across digital domains—it’s crucial we remain vigilant about preserving diversity online amidst these technological advancements impacting both general web experiences as well as niche sectors such as cryptocurrencies today!
