Binance Denies VECERT Claims of 1.5M User Data Leak

4 Min Read Tags:

  • A cybersecurity firm, VECERT Analyzer, reported the alleged sale of a database containing personal and technical data of 1.5 million Binance users.
  • Binance refuted these claims, asserting the information is false and cited the use of malware on user devices as a possible source.
  • The incident highlights security challenges in the cryptocurrency sector, emphasizing the importance of robust data protection measures.

Binance Refutes VECERT Analyzer’s Data Leak Claims

In recent developments within the cryptocurrency sector, a significant controversy has emerged involving Binance, one of the leading crypto exchanges. According to VECERT Analyzer, a cybersecurity firm, approximately 1.5 million records containing both personal and technical user data from Binance were put up for sale by a threat actor known as PexRat. However, Binance has strongly denied these allegations.

The Alleged Data Breach: What We Know

VECERT Analyzer identified this potential breach on March 28, 2026. The firm claimed that PexRat had offered access to sensitive data sets including personal information like names, email addresses, phone numbers; account details such as registration country and KYC status; security logs with IP addresses and session timestamps; and two-factor authentication (2FA) methods.
The cybersecurity firm’s alert raised concerns about the severe implications of such combined identification and technical data being compromised.

Binance’s Counterclaim: A Different Perspective

Former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) addressed these claims head-on by stating that the leaked sample only contained plain text email addresses and passwords without any personal information as previously suggested. He emphasized that this situation likely stems from malware on users’ devices rather than an internal leak from Binance itself.
CZ highlighted that passwords appearing in plain text suggest they were intercepted from end-user devices since Binance never stores passwords in this manner. This indicates potential usage of Remote Access Trojans (RATs), malicious software affecting user devices instead of originating from platform vulnerabilities.

Historical Context: An Ongoing Security Challenge

This incident is reminiscent of earlier events at the start of 2026 when researcher Jeremy Fowler discovered a database comprising 149 million accounts stolen via malware attacks. Among them were around 420,000 Binance accounts alongside records from other major platforms like Google, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, and TikTok collected from infected devices.

Implications for Cryptocurrency Security

While Binance firmly denies this latest claim by VECERT Analyzer regarding an internal data breach or leak involving its users’ private information—a situation exacerbated by previous incidents—it underscores critical security challenges facing cryptocurrencies today amid increasing cyber threats targeting digital assets worldwide.
The recurring theme here emphasizes not only vigilance against external threats but also proactive measures safeguarding individual privacy rights through enhanced protective strategies across all touchpoints involved within crypto ecosystems globally where stakeholders operate collaboratively towards ensuring secure trading environments benefiting everyone invested therein—ultimately fortifying trustworthiness essential sustaining momentum behind digital currencies’ continued growth trajectory ahead into future developments shaping tomorrow’s financial landscapes today!
