  • A potential arrest of a hacker linked to the theft of $243 million from Genesis may have occurred in Dubai, according to crypto investigator ZachXBT.
  • An Ethereum address associated with the suspect reportedly holds approximately $18.6 million.
  • UAE authorities have not confirmed any arrests or asset seizures related to this case.

Crypto Heist in Dubai: The Alleged Arrest

A recent claim by crypto analyst ZachXBT suggests a significant breakthrough in one of the largest cryptocurrency heists on record. The analyst reports that a British hacker involved in stealing $243 million from Genesis might have been apprehended by law enforcement in Dubai. This revelation is crucial as it touches upon the intricate dynamics of international cybercrime and digital asset security.
ZachXBT highlighted that the individual in question is Danny Miech, also known as Danish Zulfiqar (Khan). According to him, cryptocurrency assets linked to this suspect might have been seized, marking a potential turning point in the ongoing investigation.

The Ethereum Connection

The saga takes an intriguing turn with ZachXBT’s assertion about an Ethereum address allegedly tied to the suspect, containing around $18.58 million. This address has shown activity patterns similar to those observed when law enforcement seizes crypto assets, adding weight to the speculation of an arrest.
Importantly, ZachXBT notes that Zulfiqar was last seen in Dubai and has since become unreachable by those who previously had contact with him. However, it’s essential to mention that no official announcements regarding an arrest or asset seizure have surfaced from local media or official Dubai channels.

A Massive Crypto Theft Unfolded

The theft in question occurred in August 2024 and was one of the most significant attacks on private entities. Hackers employed social engineering techniques, posing as Google support, to reset two-factor authentication on a victim’s Gemini account. Once access was gained, they funneled 4064 BTC through various crypto services.
Previously connected with three individuals under aliases Greavys, Wiz, and Box—the attackers were later identified as Malone Lam, Vir Chetal, and Jandiel Serrano. These identifications led US authorities to initiate several criminal cases against them for similar crimes.

US Justice Department’s Involvement

In another layer of this complex narrative, the US Justice Department has already charged members of this group for fraud and extortion totaling over $260 million. The charges highlight methods involving social engineering, SIM swapping, physical access manipulation—showcasing how stolen funds were spent lavishly on cars, travel, and entertainment.

Genesis’s Legal Pursuits

Adding another chapter to this saga is Genesis’s action against Digital Currency Group (DCG) and its founder Barry Silbert for claims amounting up to $3.3 billion filed back in May 2025—a testament to ongoing legal battles within the crypto sphere over accountability and restitution.
This unfolding narrative not only captures attention due to its high-stakes figures but also underscores pressing issues surrounding cybersecurity within blockchain ecosystems—inviting scrutiny into how cryptocurrencies are managed across global platforms amid rising threats from sophisticated cybercriminal networks.
