Arthur Hayes Invested Nearly $1 Million in Ethena Ahead of Hyperliquid Vote

In a strategic move that has caught the attention of the crypto community, Arthur Hayes, co-founder of Maelstrom Investment Fund, made a substantial investment in Ethena (ENA) tokens, spending approximately $995,000. This acquisition occurred just days before a pivotal validator vote on the USDH stablecoin within the Hyperliquid platform.
According to Arkham Intelligence data, Hayes purchased Ethena tokens worth $521,000 on September 8 and followed up with an additional purchase of $473,000 for 578,956 ENA on September 10. In total, he acquired over 1.25 million ENA tokens.

The Race for USDH Ticker: Fierce Competition

Ethena stands as one of the primary contenders vying for the USDH ticker. Supported by BlackRock, their proposal involves using USDtb as collateral through BlackRock’s BUIDL fund and directing 95% of revenues into Hyperliquid. This plan also includes covering costs associated with migrating trading pairs from USDC.
David Lavandt from FalconX emphasized Ethena’s robust proposal as part of one of crypto’s most dynamic ecosystems. He highlighted that USDe surpasses $13 billion in capitalization with an impressive track record of processing $23 billion without security issues.
Despite these advancements, some market participants question whether Hayes’s investment is directly linked to influencing the vote outcome. Kirby Ong from HypurrCollective suggested that his actions might be more about personal positioning rather than explicit support for Ethena in securing votes for USDH.

Increasing Stakes: Intense Rivalry Among Competitors

The competition for securing the USDH ticker is heating up. Currently favored by Myriad Markets with a 90% probability of success is Native Markets. However, Paxos Labs—backed by PayPal—has submitted an updated proposal promising significant profit allocation to Hyperliquid and listing agreements with Kraken from day one.
Other contenders include Sky (formerly DAI), Frax Finance, and Agora. Agora raised concerns about Native Markets’ dependence on Stripe but pledged full profit returns to Hyperliquid.
Kirby Ong noted that Sunday’s ultimate decision hinges on which team can garner trust while demonstrating long-term value within the ecosystem.

Broader Implications for Crypto Market

This intense race reflects broader trends in cryptocurrency where innovation meets fierce competition—a landscape characterized by strategic investments like those made by Arthur Hayes. As companies navigate complex dynamics involving technology integration and market positioning strategies become crucial determinants shaping future developments across digital finance landscapes worldwide.
With VanEck planning applications related specifically towards launching spot-based ETFs tied directly into projects such as Hyperliquid-ETF—the stakes are undeniably high—and outcomes could significantly impact wider adoption rates within decentralized financial systems globally without relying solely upon traditional banking infrastructures anymore!
