Telegram has now allowed users to purchase advertising on its platform using Toncoin (TON). Public channel owners with more than 1,000 subscribers will be able to earn 50% of the revenue that Telegram earns from displaying advertising on their blogs.
The service for withdrawing advertising rewards will be available in the “coming weeks” on the Fragment exchange. According to the announcement, Telegram channel owners can withdraw their TON without any fees or reinvest them in advertising, collectible user names, or gifts.
The company has chosen the TON blockchain because it has low fees, high transaction speed, and holds the record for the number of transactions it can handle per second.
In the wake of this news, the TON price increased by more than 2% in the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, the asset is trading near $5.2.
A reminder, on March 24, 2024, the total locked value of assets in the TON network crossed the $76 million mark. This is a new historical maximum.
Telegram’s move to allow advertising purchases using TON will likely boost the cryptocurrency’s utility and value, as it opens up a new avenue for its use within the Telegram ecosystem. The decision to share ad revenue with channel owners could also incentivize more content creators to join the platform, potentially driving further adoption of the cryptocurrency.
