The $8.3 Million Exploit on Alex Protocol

Recently, Alex Protocol faced a significant security breach resulting in the loss of $8.3 million worth of assets. This devastating event was due to a vulnerability in their self-listing verification logic on the Stacks blockchain. Such incidents highlight ongoing security challenges within decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms.

Details of the Breach

On June 6, 2025, attackers exploited a flaw that allowed them to drain several asset pools. The stolen assets included approximately 8.4 million STX ($5.7 million), alongside other cryptocurrencies such as sBTC, wBTC, USDC, and USDT.
Among these were around 2.8 wBTC and nearly $150,000 worth of stablecoins like USDC and USDT. Additionally, over 21 Stacks Bitcoin were part of this heist. This incident is one of the most extensive breaches affecting the Stacks ecosystem to date.

Response from Alex Lab Foundation

In response to this breach, Alex Lab Foundation has assured affected users that they will receive full compensation from its reserves in USDC based on market prices at the time of the attack.
Affected users will be notified by June 8 with personalized claim forms that need submission by June 10 for processing. The foundation promises payouts within a week following verification.

Previous Security Incidents

This is not the first instance where Alex Protocol has suffered an attack; back in May 2024, hackers exploited their cross-chain bridge leading to losses amounting to $4.3 million.
