In an unprecedented development for Ukraine’s public sector, over 2,100 government officials reported owning cryptocurrencies in their 2024 declarations. This surge represents a significant 2.2 times increase compared to numbers prior to the full-scale invasion, illustrating a growing acceptance and integration of digital currencies in governmental circles.

The Most Popular Cryptocurrencies Among Officials

Bitcoin emerged as a favored choice among these officials, with 731 mentions in declarations. Ethereum followed closely with mentions in 713 filings, while USDT was noted in 802 instances. Other digital assets like XRP, BNB, Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), and Litecoin (LTC) also captured interest but to a lesser degree.

Key Entities Embracing Digital Assets

Interestingly, the Ukrainian National Police stood out by submitting the most cryptocurrency declarations at 322 filings. The Prosecutor’s Office followed with mentions in 240 reports, and judges accounted for another prominent group with 227 submissions. Meanwhile, city council members across various regions declared ownership of digital currencies as well.
While military personnel were less active in this space—only declaring digital assets in a modest number of cases—the presence of cryptocurrencies amongst different governmental bodies highlights an evolving landscape within public administration sectors.

Geographically speaking, Kiev and its surrounding area lead the pack with a total of 767 crypto-declaration filings. Kharkiv region ranks third with 172 individuals embracing digital assets publicly through their official documents. Dnipropetrovsk follows closely behind at fourth place while Lviv completes this top five lineup.
