Ethereum’s Price Forecast Revised by Standard Chartered

The world of cryptocurrency is no stranger to volatility, and recent findings from Standard Chartered underscore just how quickly sentiments can shift. In their latest report, experts at the bank have adjusted their forecast for Ethereum, predicting a year-end price drop from $10,000 to $4000. According to the head of digital asset research, Jeff Kendrick, this adjustment stems from an identified structural decline within the Ethereum market.

The Influence of Layer 2 Solutions

One key factor contributing to this downturn is the growing dominance of Layer 2 (L2) solutions. These technologies aim to enhance transaction speed and reduce fees on the main blockchain network. A notable example is the Base network’s impact, which has reportedly decreased Ethereum’s market capitalization by $50 billion.

Potential Market Stabilization through RWAs

Despite these challenges, there remains optimism about market stabilization due to significant growth in tokenized real-world assets (RWA). Currently, these assets represent around 80% of first-level networks. Kendrick suggests that such developments might halt or reverse the declining trend if bolstered by strategic initiatives.

The Role of Strategic Interventions

In the short term, reversing this negative trajectory may require direct intervention. For instance, any significant changes in commercial directions led by organizations like the Ethereum Foundation—such as implementing taxes on L2 solutions—could help stabilize prices sooner than expected.

Price Ratio Dynamics with Bitcoin

Another interesting aspect highlighted in Standard Chartered’s report is the expected drop in Ethereum’s price ratio relative to Bitcoin. This ratio might plummet to 0.015 BTC—the lowest point since 2017—suggesting persistent bearish sentiment towards Ethereum compared to Bitcoin.
While experts anticipate a recovery in Ethereum prices back up to $1900 eventually, they warn that current weak trends are likely here for some time. Nevertheless, as always in crypto markets, adaptability and strategic interventions could pave new paths for value restoration and growth amidst changing dynamics.
