Public Miners’ Hashrate Reaches a New Record High

The share of the hashrate from the 14 largest American public Bitcoin miners hit a new historic peak, capturing 28.9% of the total network capacity in October. According to a report by JPMorgan Chase, as cited by CoinDesk, this surge represents about a 70% increase since early 2024, jumping from 80 EH/s to 194 EH/s. This growth outpaces the overall network hashrate, which only increased by 33% during the same period.

Investment Opportunities Amid Market Growth

JPMorgan Chase highlights the 7% rise in the total market capitalization of these miners since late September 2024, suggesting it could be an attractive entry point for investors. Despite the rise in the hashrate, the price per hash increased by less than 1%, reflecting a challenging environment as mining profitability has reportedly declined for three consecutive months.

Stock Performance Among Key Players

The positive sentiment in the Bitcoin market has fueled a rise in the stocks of these companies in early October. Notably, shares of MARA (formerly Marathon Digital) have surged by over 9% within a month, as shown on TradingView. Similarly, Iris Energy’s stock exhibited a remarkable nearly 23% increase.
In contrast, Stronghold Digital Mining’s shares are experiencing a downturn, with a monthly decline of 7.3%, as observed by experts at JPMorgan Chase. This performance is also reflected in the TradingView stock chart for SDIG.

Broader Implications for the Crypto Market

The significant growth in hashrate and market capitalization among major public miners underscores a critical shift in the Bitcoin mining landscape. This expansion indicates increasing institutional interest and investment potential within the industry. However, the mixed stock performance of individual miners highlights the varying market dynamics and risks inherent in the sector.
Overall, these developments reflect a maturing market, where strategic investments and technological advancements are pivotal in navigating the evolving crypto ecosystem. Investors and stakeholders should remain vigilant, leveraging insights and data to make informed decisions in this dynamic environment.
