Web3 Game Startup Smolbound Raises $6 Million in Funding

The Web3 gaming startup Smolbound has successfully closed a $6 million seed funding round, led by Bitkraft Ventures, with participation from Play Ventures, Anthos Capital, King River Capital, Rockaway X, Zentry, Caballeros Capital, Gam3Girl Ventures, and Offchain Labs.

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly acquired capital is set to be used primarily for the creation of Web3 games. The first game, Smolbound, is already in the closed beta testing phase and is scheduled to launch on the Treasure blockchain next year.

Industry Impact and Vision

Jonathan Huang, Director at Bitkraft Ventures, emphasized that Smolbound is designed to appeal to a broad audience of gamers who prefer comfort over competition. He stated, “Smolbound breathes new life into the well-loved genre of cozy life simulators.”

Innovative Approach

PurpleSnow, the CEO of Darkbright—the developer behind Smolbound—explained that the integration of Web3 and game mechanics fosters the growth of in-game communities. According to him, Web3 is the optimal way to create next-generation live services.

Potential for NFT Integration

There are plans to potentially integrate NFTs into the game, adding another layer of engagement and monetization for users.
This recent funding and planned developments in Smolbound are part of a larger trend in the gaming industry, where blockchain technology and Web3 elements are increasingly being adopted to enhance user experience and community building.
Smolbound’s innovative approach and substantial financial backing position it well to make significant strides in the Web3 gaming landscape, potentially setting new standards for the integration of blockchain technology in gaming.
