Renowned investment firm a16z has unveiled its latest ranking of the top 100 AI-based products. The list is split into two categories: web services and mobile applications, showcasing the best in each. This year, the rankings reveal significant shifts and new trends in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Top Web Services

The top 10 AI web services are as follows:
1. GhatGPT
2. Character.ai
3. Perplexity
4. Claude
5. Suno
6. JanitorAI
7. QuillBot
8. Poe
9. Liner
10. CivitAI
Notably, Google’s chatbot Gemini, which previously held the second spot, has dropped out of the top 50 entirely. Liner also saw a decline, falling from fourth to ninth. On the other hand, Perplexity and JanitorAI have risen in the ranks, with Claude showing the most significant growth, moving from tenth to fourth place.

Top Mobile Applications

The top 10 AI mobile applications include:
1. ChatGPT
2. Microsoft Edge
3. Photomath
4. Nova
5. Bing
6. Remini
7. Chat & Ask AI
8. Brainly
9. Meitu
10. Character.ai
Epik and Facemoji have dropped out of the top 10, replaced by Character.ai and Meitu. ChatGPT continues to dominate, maintaining its top position across both web and mobile categories.

The Rise of Creative Tools

A key finding from the analysis is the dominance of creative tools in the AI market. Over 52% of the top web services are focused on content creation and editing, including music, videos, and images. Among the 12 new companies on the list, 58% are creative tools, with four out of the five best newcomers being creativity-focused.

ByteDance’s AI Push

The rating highlights ByteDance’s significant advancements in AI. Three new ByteDance applications have entered the top 100:
– Gauth (educational tech platform)
– Coze (bot constructor)
– Doubao (universal assistant)
Previously, ByteDance’s video editor Hypic and assistant Cici also made the top 100. This surge is attributed to ByteDance’s 2023 launch of its research division, Flow, which focuses on generative AI applications.

New Trends: Aesthetics and Dating

The analysis also identifies a new category: “Aesthetics and Dating.” This includes three AI-based products: LooksMax AI, Umax, and RIZZ. LooksMax AI and Umax provide users with photo evaluations and tips to improve their attractiveness, while RIZZ enhances messaging quality in dating apps.

Geographic Distribution

The United States leads in the number of top AI projects, followed by Europe and Asia, with China being a significant player. Some projects also have origins in the Middle East, Oceania, and Canada.
Despite fierce competition, ChatGPT remains the top AI product, with no immediate challengers in sight. Its significant user base and advances in large language models (LLMs) keep it ahead of the pack. However, competitors like Perplexity, Claude, and Luzia are gaining traction, indicating a dynamic and competitive future for AI innovations.
