Massive Crypto Losses in August 2024: $313.86 Million Stolen

The latest report from PeckShield has unveiled staggering losses in the cryptocurrency sector for August 2024. The total amount stolen reached an alarming $313.86 million, highlighting the ongoing vulnerabilities within the industry.

Phishing Attacks: The Main Culprit

Phishing attacks were the leading cause of these losses, accounting for $293.4 million. A significant portion of this, $238 million, was lost in Bitcoin. Additionally, an unknown trader lost $55.4 million in DAI after a hacker gained access to their external account.

High-Profile Incidents and Recovery Efforts

Earlier in the month, the Ronin Bridge fell victim to a hack, resulting in a $12 million loss. Remarkably, the attacker returned the stolen funds. However, the month also saw other incidents, including an unauthorized transfer leading to a $5.1 million loss and an attack on the Nexera blockchain infrastructure protocol.

Kylian Mbappé’s Social Media Hack
