The latest “Crypto Wealth Report 2024” by Henley & Partners reveals a significant surge in the number of crypto millionaires over the past year. According to the report, the number of Bitcoin millionaires (individuals holding over $1 million in BTC) has risen by 111% to 85,400. The total number of individuals owning over $1 million in cryptocurrencies has increased by 95% to 172,300.
Growing Ranks of Ultra-Wealthy Crypto Holders
The report also highlights the increasing number of ultra-wealthy crypto holders. Since the first “Crypto Wealth Report” in 2023, the number of individuals with crypto holdings exceeding $10 million has jumped by 79% to 325. Additionally, the number of crypto billionaires worldwide has grown by 27% to 28.
Key Drivers of Crypto Wealth Growth
Dominic Volek, Head of Private Clients at Henley & Partners, attributes this sharp rise in crypto wealth to the introduction of cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on major financial markets. The significant price increase of Bitcoin, which recently surpassed $70,000, also played a crucial role in this growth.
Volek further speculates that the approval of a spot ETF for Solana could be another catalyst for the crypto market. He notes, “The anticipated inclusion of Solana ETFs into Wall Street’s offerings marks the beginning of a new era of cryptocurrency adoption. Digital assets are becoming increasingly intertwined with traditional finance and global mobility.”
Broader Adoption of Cryptocurrencies
The Henley & Partners report also indicates broader adoption of cryptocurrencies. The number of cryptocurrency users has grown by 32% to 560 million. Meanwhile, the number of Bitcoin users has increased by 31% to 275 million.
The report includes insights from prominent figures in the crypto industry. Henry Burrows, CEO of Hoptrail, points to the impressive returns on relatively small initial investments as a key factor behind the rapid increase in wealthy crypto asset holders. Lark Davis, a cryptocurrency investor and founder of Wealth Mastery, emphasizes Ethereum’s role as a “key market asset.” He asserts that the evolution of Ethereum shows that cryptocurrencies are no longer merely an alternative currency.
Global Crypto Migration Trends
In addition to the wealth report, Henley & Partners released the second edition of its cryptocurrency geographic index. This index assesses destinations based on investment crypto migration. Singapore ranks as the most preferred hub with a score of 45.7 out of 60. Hong Kong follows with 42.1 points, while the United Arab Emirates ranks third with 41.8 points. The United States and the United Kingdom round out the top five with scores of 41.7 and 36.1, respectively.
Final Thoughts
While the report underscores the exponential growth in the number of crypto millionaires, it also raises important questions. If the trend of crypto millionaires growing by over 100% annually continues, wealth in the crypto sector could become increasingly concentrated among a select group. As the report suggests, the wealthy may have access to insights and opportunities that the broader population does not.
Ultimately, individuals must decide their path. Will they align with the growing ranks of crypto millionaires and billionaires, or remain skeptical of the cryptocurrency market’s potential?
