Bitcoin Whale Moves 250 BTC After 11 Years of Dormancy

On August 7, 2024, a mysterious Bitcoin whale made headlines by transferring 250 BTC, valued at approximately $14 million at the time, to a single wallet. This significant move was reported by Whale Alert, a prominent blockchain tracking service. The transaction incurred a minimal fee of $2.59.

Long-Term Inactivity

Remarkably, this Bitcoin holder had not moved their assets for over 11 years and two months. According to on-chain data, the individual initially received these assets on May 12, 2013. During the period from 2018 to 2020, minor amounts of Bitcoin—totaling up to $1—were sent to this address. Interestingly, some of these transactions had significant fees, reaching $98.60 and $168.28.

Revival of Dormant Wallets

This incident follows reports from earlier this year of two other Bitcoin whales reactivating their wallets after nearly 12 years. From one address, 26 BTC were withdrawn, and from another, 37 BTC were moved.

Market Implications

In early August 2024, Ki Young Ju, the founder and CEO of the analytics platform CryptoQuant, observed that Bitcoin whales are actively preparing for the next “crypto market rally.” Over the past 30 days, these large holders have accumulated 404,448 BTC, worth approximately $23 billion.

Current Market Status

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading near the $57,400 mark. This ongoing accumulation by whales suggests a potential bullish trend in the near future, signaling strong confidence among major holders in the cryptocurrency market.
In summary, the recent activity of long-dormant Bitcoin whales, coupled with substantial accumulation trends, points towards a significant phase in the cryptocurrency market. These movements and trends are crucial indicators for investors and market watchers, suggesting potential bullish momentum ahead.
